One special interest of mine is prenatal consultations with families who have received a diagnosis of serious fetal anomalies. My colleague, Nancy English, PhD RN, and I have met with approximately 100 patients over the past three years. I've been developing an ethical framework which can guide our conversations with these families. The intent of the framework is to address bioethical principles, professional duties, and styles of conversations. Our hypothesis is that the child's prognosis (or burdens/benefits ratio) can guide our work. My wife Barbara and I will be traveling in Scotland during mid-July, and I am wondering if there might be an opportunity for me to share a cup of coffee or tea with you at some point.
